emdesilets I listened to “Da Slockit Light” first because it always makes me cry. (It’s still 2020 after all.) Thank you. Beautiful album. Smiling and foot tapping, with a sigh now and then. Play on and give my regards to Massachusetts. Favorite track: Da Slockit Light/ Lasses Trust in Providence/ Jack Broke Da Prison Door/ Sleep Soond in the Morning/ Da New Rigged Ship.

about

In 1993, my mom and I took what we thought was a 'once in a lifetime trip' to Scotland. We flew to Glasgow, rented a car, encountered a roundabout for the first time ever, took a harrowing drive north on the other side of the road, and finally arrived in Kyle of Lochalsh to board a ferry for the Isle of Skye. We then embarked on a week long fiddle/dance course with Alasdair Fraser, Buddy MacMaster, and Harvey Beaton at Sabhal Mor Ostaig. We went back every summer for several years after that.

Most of the tunes on this album I learned from tapes I made of the sessions, classes, and dances from that first year.
